Hmm, reading through some of your unpublished posts, I just wanted to tell you guys that I know how hard it is to get to Emily Carr on Wednesday nights and think about sitting through a 3 hour class. I feel the same way. But on the other hand, what an incredible opportunity for us to learn from each other. It's always wonderful to sit through introductions to classes and find out who is in the room. But it was especially inspiring to me to hear who you all are, how deeply involved you are in the community and your lives. And, although it's hard for me to get to Granville Island, too---Deb, I relate about public transport---and I'm hoofing it and leaving behind my two wonderful boys---I believe we will really find our time together valuable and special and I'm going to do my best to make it worth your time to show up.
Next week's class plan:
How to develop blogging as an art. How to develop blogging as a craft. What's the difference? Discussion of basic writing tools. Discussion of what makes New Yorker Talk of the Town so good.
An overview of some really great blogs, from personal blogs to political blogs to crazy fun gossipy blogs to blogs that may really be changing the world. Which of these do you relate to? Would you like to model your blog after?
In class writing assignment. Write a post in which you sum up your project, if you DO have your own blog. Explain it in one sentence. Then explain it in one paragraph. Then explain it in 500 words.
For those of you who don't have a blog, write a post explaining, in as create a way as you can: who are you?
Reading posts out loud.
Overview of guidelines bloggers should follow relating to libel and other professional standards.
Discussion of ethics.
Homework assignment: Add photographs and/or video to your blog.
