out damn spot! or action for 'off the cuff'

Social media...how is it social? Here we are, eleven people sitting silently at computers writing whatever comes to mind. I won't even have to read what anyone has written, nor will they . Not terrifically interative. Social. It's the NFB project all over again. People enervated that there could actually be two endings to a film so watchers could interact with the content. Wow. The novelty of the idea took the breath out of them.

I don't necessarily want people to care about what I think but I do want them to think. I want some passion back in human discourse. Somewhere back there we started not interacting with children (possible pedophile); engaging in dialogue with someone from another culture (racist); not say something that varied from a manifesto that some bureaucrat considered objectionable (politically correct) or that violated some individual's human rights.

I just want every day life to be social once again. Where we all interact in a somewhat scripted way called being mannerly to one another. What I truly mean I guess is whatever happened to civil society? When we spoke with courtesy to one another, made eye contact and actually stopped whatever else we were doing to acknowledge another?

Life has taken me on many detours from wherever I originally thought I was going. Whatever rut presented itself and was wallowed in changed the course of my life's path. Most of it person led. I feel cheated of the possible experiences by the daily eyes down finger- dwiddling countenance of most of the populace.

Random acts of kindness were in vogue not so terribly long ago. It always gives me great joy the days I encounter some person, usually older who has taken time with their person. I give them a touch and comment and how well they look. The light that comes to their faces...what an amazing gift!
